Since the last tax season, improvements will include:
The IRS is also enhancing in-person support by offering more hours at Taxpayer Assistance Centers nationwide. Additionally, the agency will continue to focus on maintaining high service levels on its main taxpayer phone lines, aiming for up to 85% service capacity.
“These taxpayer-focused improvements are significant, but they are just the beginning of what the IRS needs to do,” said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. “More can be accomplished with continued investment in the nation’s tax system.”
The IRS expects more than 140 million individual tax returns for tax year 2024 to be filed before the federal deadline of Tuesday, April 15. More than half of all returns are expected to be filed with the help of a tax professional, and the IRS encourages taxpayers to work with a trusted tax pro to avoid potential scams and schemes.
